Iris reticulata in a different light

Cold weather (it was 10 F here this morning) has slowed down the march of spring ephemerals. But over the weekend I caught the blooiming patch of .Iris reticulata in the morning light.

  1. I find it curious, how the bulbs/plants take turns. One year, an I. reticulata was the first flowering bulb to follow the snowdrops. this year, the choreography was more organized: snowdrops followed by crocus and now the reticulatas. (Sadly, the aconites have not taken to my garden…yet.)

  2. I’m so impatient! at least you have some little blue blooms to keep you company. Today at Plantations, there are Squill coming up on eastern slopes, as well as Cyclamen and Hellebores. Chilly this morning!

  3. This is my first sighting of your blog and I must say that I love your garden! We live in Nebraska (zone 4-5)and I am slowly on my way to growing my garden and figuring out what should go where. This weekend we built a flagstone pathway to our front door and we are trying to decide on what should grow beside it… any great thoughts?
