Felder Rushing in Syracuse, April 5

Felder's flamingosFelder Rushing will headline the Men’s Garden Club of Syracuse 14th annual spring gardening seminar. The the always entertaining author of Passalong Plants and much, much more will speak on ‘Slow Gardening’ and ‘How a Bird Feeder Can Save Your Sanity’. Also speaking will be Dr. Laura Deeter from Ohio State.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that Felder was a big early inspiration. He gave me permission to do any damn thing I please. And I love his take on designing with form and texture in mind: “It all boils down to ’roundy/spiky/frilly’ don’t it?”

Non-member tuition is $45. More info: 315/420-6369.

Should be a hoot.

  1. I’m glad you heard about this. I was considering scanning the flyer I got and mailing you the scan. (Isn’t about time the Men’s Garden Club of Syracuse had a website?) I was all set to go when I realized it’s the same weekend as the Spring Fling. I hope you get to go and report back. I went to one of their other spring seminars and the Craftsman Inn is very easy to get to via 81 and 481.

  2. If anyone has the opportunity to hear Felder Rushing speak, they should take it. His talks are imformative and very humerous, and if there are any ex-pat southerners in the audience, it will particularly do them good. I have heard him several times before; most recently he was the final speaker at a professional horticulture conference I went to in Virginia Beach. It is worth seeing his photos on what can be done with a typical suburban yard, just switch out the plants to suit your climate.

  3. I was listening to Felder’s The Gestalt Gardener podcast driving out from NYC to western NJ earlier this evening. I grew up in Mississippi, and used to read his garden column in my hometown newspaper back when he was Madison County’s Agricultural Extension Agent. I didn’t realize he had developed such a large following.
