{"id":71,"date":"2007-03-14T18:12:03","date_gmt":"2007-03-15T01:12:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.remarc.com\/craig\/?p=71"},"modified":"2007-03-14T18:12:03","modified_gmt":"2007-03-15T01:12:03","slug":"as-the-snow-retreats-lotsa-pix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ellishollow.remarc.com\/?p=71","title":{"rendered":"As the snow retreats (lotsa pix)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I love the frenzy of flowers in late spring\/early summer. \u00c2\u00a0And the garden here peaks in September when the shear mass of plant \u00c2\u00a0material is nearly overwhelming. \u00c2\u00a0But nothing beats seeing what pops up as the snow retreats.<\/p>\n<p>We hit 63 yesterday and today, and had a little rain today. \u00c2\u00a0The snow has retreated quickly, and we had a nice blanket of &#8216;melting snow fog&#8217; this afternoon. \u00c2\u00a0(Click on images for larger view.)<\/p>\n<p><a HREF=\"images\/snowfogx1200.jpg\"><img SRC=\"images\/snowfogx500.jpg\" ALT=\"snow fog\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The rain and melting snow has our little creek up over it&#8217;s banks.<\/p>\n<p><a HREF=\"images\/overbanksx1200.jpg\"><img SRC=\"images\/overbanksx500.jpg\" ALT=\"over the banks\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The\u00c2\u00a0snow\u00c2\u00a0pealed\u00c2\u00a0back\u00c2\u00a0to\u00c2\u00a0reveil\u00c2\u00a0<em>Eranthis<\/em> (winter aconite)\u00c2\u00a0in full flower.<\/p>\n<p><a HREF=\"images\/eranthisx1200.jpg\"><img SRC=\"images\/eranthisx500.jpg\" ALT=\"Eranthis\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The hard cyclamens are also looking good and flowering within a day of seeing the sun.<\/p>\n<p><a HREF=\"images\/cyclamen2x1200.jpg\"><img SRC=\"images\/cyclamen2x500.jpg\" ALT=\"cyclamens\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a HREF=\"images\/cyclamen1x1200.jpg\"><img SRC=\"images\/cyclamen1x500.jpg\" ALT=\"cyclamens\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And the Hellebores are getting off to a good start &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a HREF=\"images\/hellebore1200.jpg\"><img SRC=\"images\/hellebore500.jpg\" ALT=\"Hellebores\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m just as excited to see vegetation that amazingly survives (if not actually grows) under the snow, like these <em>Digitalis ferruginea<\/em> &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a HREF=\"images\/d_ferrugineax1200.jpg\"><img SRC=\"images\/d_ferrugineax500.jpg\" ALT=\"Digitalis ferruginea\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; <em>Verbascum<\/em> &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a HREF=\"images\/verbascumx1200.jpg\"><img SRC=\"images\/verbascumx500.jpg\" ALT=\"Verbascum\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; <em>Lamium<\/em> &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a HREF=\"images\/dead_nettlex1200.jpg\"><img SRC=\"images\/dead_nettlex500.jpg\" ALT=\"Lamium\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; and this viny groundcover that&#8217;s taking over the patio.<\/p>\n<p><a HREF=\"images\/groundcoverx1200.jpg\"><img SRC=\"images\/groundcoverx500.jpg\" ALT=\"groundcover\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Best picture of the batch:  This <em>Verbascum<\/em> has been nibbled on a bit.
