{"id":363,"date":"2008-04-07T17:40:42","date_gmt":"2008-04-08T00:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.remarc.com\/craig\/?p=363"},"modified":"2008-04-07T17:40:42","modified_gmt":"2008-04-08T00:40:42","slug":"skunk-cabbage-run-bees-and-peepers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ellishollow.remarc.com\/?p=363","title":{"rendered":"Skunk Cabbage Run, bees and peepers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a HREF=\"images\/skunk_cabbage_runnersx1200.jpg\"><img ALT=\"skunk cabbage run\" SRC=\"images\/skunk_cabbage_runnersx500.jpg\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nSince Sunday morning, there have been three important events that herald spring and the opening of gardening season here.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The annual <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.halfmarathons.net\/usa_half_marathons_new_york_skunk_cabbage_classic_half_marathon.html\">Skunk Cabbage Run<\/a> (half marathon or 10K, take your pick) goes by our front door every year on the first Sunday in April, or at least that&#8217;s my recollection.  Sometimes it&#8217;s snowy or sleeting or generally miserable.  But this year it was beautiful.  Sunny and 50s as the runners passed and 60s later on.<\/li>\n<li>When I finally finished my taxes and got outside, first thing I noticed is the bees are back &#8212; working over the spring ephemerals (pix below) like Fred working over his bowl of kibbles.<\/li>\n<li>Then tonight while doing a little more tidying up outside, I heard the <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.remarc.com\/craig\/?p=95\">spring peepers<\/a> for the first time.  They haven&#8217;t turned the volume up to 11 yet. Not as impressive at <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.remarc.com\/craig\/?p=362\">Hitch&#8217;s<\/a>.
