In this morning&#8217;s NY Times:  <a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/06\/05\/us\/05goats.html?ex=1338696000&amp;en=7965e814b49e840b&amp;ei=5124&amp;partner=permalink&amp;exprod=permalink\">In Tennessee, Goats Eat the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcVine That Ate the South\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Chattanooga\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s goats have become unofficial city mascots since the Public Works Department decided last year to let them roam a city-owned section of the ridge to nibble the kudzu, the fast-growing vine that throttles the Southern landscape.<\/p>\n<p>The Missionary Ridge goats and the project\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s tragicomic turns have created headlines, inspired a folk ballad and invoked more than their share of goat-themed chuckles.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Usually, in dealing with this, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve got to get people past the laugh factor,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Jerry Jeansonne, a city forestry inspector and the program\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s self-described \u00e2\u20ac\u0153goat dude.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the humorous overtones to the city\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s methods, the program represents an environmentally friendly effort to grapple with a real problem in Chattanooga and the South.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/06\/05\/us\/05goats.html?ex=1338696000&amp;en=7965e814b49e840b&amp;ei=5124&amp;partner=permalink&amp;exprod=permalink\">Read the whole article.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve always been an advocate of using animals to manage vegetation.
