David Waugh, leaf-caster extraordinaire at the improbably named Morningwood Farm Nursery and Garden Center, left a comment on my post last June, The secret to great leaf casts.
David’s leaf casts, like the petasites leaf above, are inspirational. One of my new year’s resolutions is to make some more next summer.
We call Fred our ‘cotton dog’. (Jade, our border collie-lab mix is the ‘wool dog’.) Getting Fred to outside in winter has always been an issue. So with the January-in-November we’re having now, we splurged and bought him a coat.
He likes it more than he lets on.
The light is strange this time of year. The sun sets early behind the ridge to the southwest, leaving us with a long twilight and blue skies to the east and interesting colors to the northwest.

And to the northwest, where we see our great summer sunsets.
Not much flowering around here now. A few violas. Thought I should capture some of the foliage and fuzz before they’re gone. Expect mostly seedheads and buds for the next three months.
Being a dog guy, I found this endearing.
