Bloom day scans

I usually think of September as a time of waning color, but there’s still lots out there. Sure, it’s here and there and you have to look for it. And it’s dwarfed by the goldenrod peaking, and will continue to be dwarfed as the trees start to change. But it’s there …

  1. I’m kind of surprising myself that I really like the detail of the first scan… and I’m not usually a monochrome kind of girl. That one is kind of… sweetly, old-fashioned-ly, wedding-y. Nice.

  2. When I look at the scan with all the different blooms, I feel like you live in a climate I’m not familiar with (as opposed to Ithaca). It’s such a lush and yes, exotic, grouping. (What is the pink-flushed yellow flower below the hibiscus?) The first scan makes me think of a tray of brooches all ready for sale — little jewels.

  3. Linda: When you take a quarter acre of garden and condense it onto your basic document scanner bed, it does look lush. But it’s so scattered around — a pot here, a plant there — that my garden doesn’t really have an overall lush tropical look.

The one exception: My container cluster, where the big banana is up over my 6-6 head and the brugmansia is finally flowering. (You can smell it when you step out the door.)

MMD: Wish I could tell you the variety or where I got it. After a couple years, it’s gotten big — 6 or 7 feed tall and as wide. But it’s both delicate and tough. I’m going to divide it next year and spread it around.

  4. These collages are nice Craig. Thanks for the info about how to do this. I have often wondered. You sometimes have so many flowers in the collage it is such a wonder. If our scanner wasn’t kaput I would try it. Happy GBBD.
