Memorial Day

More than an excuse for a picnic — or blind nationalism for that matter. A time to remember and hopefully learn.

  1. Thanks. That’s a great song. “I didn’t know there were things worse than dying”. A history has just been published in Australia that documents the stories of some of these men who returned injured or psychologically damaged from the First World War. According to one review, it was quite a challenge to find historical documents detailing their life histories, trying to live in a world badly adapted to disability. Maimed people were to be kept at home, out of sight. Not much of a life. Much of the material came from letters and diaries and it was heartbreaking. Thanks again, always good to reflect.

On a lighter note, I’ve a T shirt purchased from a Pogues concert in Dublin. Gray, plain Green text on front and back. Front says: The Pogues. Back says “Lend me 10 pounds and I’ll buy you a drink”.
