Basketball center of the universe

Any sports trivia folks out there? Have there ever been three teams in the NCAA tournament in such close geographic proximity? Syracuse, Cornell, and Binghamton?

  1. What’s the distance? When Purdue which is 70 miles from Butler which is 50 miles from Indiana all three go to the dance, that’s pretty close. One year I think Butler and IUPUI which are 5 miles apart and IU and Purdue all went. That’s pretty close, too.

But this IS Indiana, and we know our basketball!

  2. Yeah Carol. I forgot about Indiana. How could I do that? I was thinking that maybe North Carolina or a metro area (Philly, NYC) would have had more or closer schools one year.

Binghamton to Syracuse is about 70 miles. Ithaca is kind of in between.

I know you Hoosiers are serious about your hoops. I remember driving into a small Indy city back in the ’80s (might have been Logansport) and literally every driveway had a hoop and a larger percentage of them with glass backboards.

  3. My father, b. 1914 in Paris, Kentucky, resident of Louisville since 1952, says, “In this state, a ‘sex pervert’ is anyone who prefers sex to basketball.”

    Go CARDS!

  4. 🙂 Here in Kentucky (where we are last in so many important things) we are often first in college basketball. We currently have 3 teams in the NCAA ( Louisville, Morehead State, And WKU) and one in the NIT (UK). We have had as many as 4 teams in the NCAA tournament.

    Go Toppers!!!

  5. BBall obsessed husband rolls his eyes & says “this happens allll the time.” Thinks Duke, UNC, Wake Forest are closer. Google maps showing a very similar triangulate to the upstate schools. Now says, “alright, so I was a little off, but not by much.”
Note that KU basketball is the reason we even have cable…
