  1. Didn’t Obama once say that he was against off shore drilling, but had now decided he is for it (like within the last week)? He doesn’t seem to have any one clear direction to me on a whole list of issues, but enjoys the idea of being elected / eletactable. I suppose both our choices are like this, though. Regardless, I’m disenchanted–one person / president won’t make much difference because we need a deeper societal / cultural phenomenon to have a ‘change we can believe in.’ I just drove to Minnesota and back for the 2nd time this summer, and both times saw flatbed trucks pulling wind turbine blades and center cones. That’s change I can believe in.

  2. Hey Ben:

Yeah, those turbines are a good sign.

My understanding of Obama’s position is not that he’s *for* offshore drilling. But he is *willing to compromise* on it if it’s part of a comprehensive plan that includes all that other stuff (conservation, retooled auto factories, etc. etc.) that sane folks concerned about our energy future want but the Republicans aren’t about to go for. (They’re the ones who pushed for the tax credits for SUVs, remember.)

The whole offshore thing is a sham issue, anyway. It’s a land (resource) grab. The oil companies are sitting on something like 60+ million acres of leases they’re not drilling on now, and have no plans to drill on. They’re just trying to flesh out their portfolio before there’s a change in government.

  3. If memory serves, an ‘Obama energy plan’ tire gauge will set you back
$25 — about what you’d save with the ‘roll back the gas tax’ scam.
